Biodiesel Industry Producing Record Volumes.

U.S. biodiesel production reached a new monthly high in June of 81 million gallons, marking a third consecutive month of record volumes. Biodiesel production in the first half of 2011 has already eclipsed production for all of 2010.

The new EPA statistics come after Congress reinstated the biodiesel tax incentive this year. Leer más »

Argentina is expected to produce 2.3 million metric tons of biodiesel, made from soybeans, this year, up 27 percent from 2010, Oil World said in a report today. Exports may total 1.5 million tons, according to the report. In Brazil, biodiesel output may gain 14 percent, Oil World said. Leer más »

Planning Minister Julio De Vido, undertook to update the domestic price of biodiesel that remains frozen from the Ministry of Interior established Comercion Supply Act for the entire marketing chain liquid fuels.

Urgente24 reported 8 / 11 that negotiations were between the producers and the government to unfreeze the internal value of biodiesel derived from soybean (see related). However, the conflict would come to an end for the pressures of the association that brings together workers in the sector.

Researchers from the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering of the University of Concepción (UdeC), based in Chillán, will begin a project that focuses on the cultivation of oleic microalgae for the manufacture of biofuels tomorrow.

According to Jose Fernando Reyes, academic and director of technology and research at UdeC, this is “a project whose concept does not exist in Chile at this time.” Leer más »

SAO PAULO Oct 25 (Reuters) – Brazilian biodiesel producer Ecodiesel (ECOD3.SA: Quote) and Maeda, a cotton and grain producer, are in talks to merge, the companies said on Monday.

Aaron Socha, and Jason Sello conducted research to streamline biodiesel production.

Two Brown chemists have developed a more efficient way to produce biodiesel from waste vegetable oil. 

Using two catalysts common in organic chemistry, Assistant Professor of Chemistry Jason Sello and Postdoctoral Fellow Aaron Socha were able to synthesize biodiesel in a single reaction vessel, according to a University press release. Their findings were published in the Oct. 7 issue of the journal Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry.  Leer más »

BUENOS AIRES – Agribusiness giant Cargill said Thursday it was investing $113.6 million to build a biodiesel plant and an electricity generator in Argentina, where the U.S.-based company is the largest soy exporter.

Both projects will be carried out in the central province of Santa Fe and are due to come online in September 2011, the general manager of Cargill Argentina, Hugo Kranjc, told reporters after submitting the company’s plans to President Cristina Fernandez. Leer más »

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) – Argentina will make energy companies double the amount of soy-based biodiesel they blend with regular diesel fuel by the end of this year, the government announced on Thursday.
