By Jerome Carlo R. Paunan.QUEZON CITY, Aug. 16 (PIA) — The Aquino administration is eying the potential of the oil derived from coconuts or “coco-biodiesel” to reduce the country’s overdependence on imported fuels, an official from the Philippine Coconut Authority said Tuesday.

During the CNEX – Talking Points forum held at the Philippine Information Agency, PCA public relations officer Thelma Tolentino said government is considering to increase the current minimum two percent blend of coco-diesel due to its many benefits. Leer más »

Biodiesel Industry Producing Record Volumes.

U.S. biodiesel production reached a new monthly high in June of 81 million gallons, marking a third consecutive month of record volumes. Biodiesel production in the first half of 2011 has already eclipsed production for all of 2010.

The new EPA statistics come after Congress reinstated the biodiesel tax incentive this year. Leer más »

BIODIESEL NEWS 30 June 2011/Between 2005 and 2015 the worldwide market value of biodiesel is expected to increase by 26%, reaching $62 million (€43.3 million) in 2015. This is according to a report released from market research reports database companiesandmarkets.com. 

In 2009, a total of 14.7 billion gallons of biodiesel were produced. The report, entitled Biodiesel and Feedstocks: A Global Market Outlook, predicts this could reach 26 billion gallons by 2015.  Leer más »

OBAMA-BIODIESEL-USAShareIn Washington, President Barack Obama today signed H.R. 4853, the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010.

Last night, the US House of Representatives voted by a 277 to 148 margin to approve the Obama tax deal, which extends the ethanol tax credit through 2011, and retroactively extends the biodiesel tax incentive and the renewable diesel incentive through 2011. The bill also renewed the 54-cent tariff on Brazilian ethanol through 2011.

Growth Energy CEO Tom Buis was invited to the signing ceremony for the Tax Relief Unemployment Extension Bill. At the ceremony, Buis presented the President with a letter on behalf of the American ethanol industry and its supporters, thanking him for delivering a common-sense ethanol tax policy. Leer más »

By Erin Voegele/A report recently released by the Australian Government’s Rural Industries Research and Development Corp. investigated the potential for using native and naturalized plant species as feedstock for biodiesel production. The study, “Evaluating Biodiesel Potential of Australian Native and Naturalised Plant Species,” assessed the feasibility of more than 200 potential feedstocks and determined that 20 locally available species have commercial potential. By Bryan Sims/With support from Invest Toronto, Energy Innovation Corp. has proposed to repurpose an 8,600 square-foot building into a biodiesel production facility with an initial annual output volume of 5 MMly (about 1.3 MMgy). Located in the downtown core in the port lands area, the future facility will be located on a site with existing ship, truck and rail transportation infrastructure that could be leveraged for feedstock sourcing and biodiesel marketing. Enzyme company Verenium Corp. has partnered with global oils, fats and biodiesel technology firm Desmet Ballestra to expand the use and geographic reach of its vegetable-oil-specific enzyme, Purifine PLC. Nearly a month after announcing a partnership with Alfa Laval to jointly market the enzyme, Verenium has signed with Desmet Ballestra to market the Purifine enzymatic degumming process, while packaging the enzyme with Desmet Ballestra’s processing equipment and engineering services. The total project cost will exceed USD 600,000.

Researchers from the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering of the University of Concepción (UdeC), based in Chillán, will begin a project that focuses on the cultivation of oleic microalgae for the manufacture of biofuels tomorrow.

According to Jose Fernando Reyes, academic and director of technology and research at UdeC, this is “a project whose concept does not exist in Chile at this time.” Leer más »
