The 6º Day Conference of Quality Upgrading in the Oil Industry was organized by ASAGA and held last Friday in the facilities of the Holliday Inn Hotel of Rosario city. In it topics astraceability, minimum entrance standards to the external markets, effective normatives, and new methodologies for hte quality analysis applied to the oil, vegetable flours and biodiesel industry were approached.  Â

Our country without any doubts has become one of the main expoters of oleaginous, oil and flours of vegetable origin, positioning in a strategic place in the world market of foods and energy.Â

But this exponential development also brings demands in the quality of what is exported, which are manifested both inside and outside of the industries, that is to say in the production processes, as when marketing the produced volumes.Â

To approach these topics, ASAGA summoned a group of specialists, that offered a wide upgrade on the topics that mostly worry to those who work in the quality areas of the industries of the sector.Â

The conference began with the presentation in charge of Fernando Wnuk, coordinator of the conference next to Cintia Maltoni, welcoming to those who were present and thanking to the sponsors for the support given for the realization of the it and announcing that Rosario will be the headquarters of the next Latin American Congress of Fatty and Oils. Â

The keys for the external tradeÂ

The first chat was in charge of the Engineer Agr. Ana Di Giulio (SENASA), who presented the topic “Upgrade on restrictions in sanitary regulations and bilateral negotiations”, exposing considerations about the trade with Russia, the EU and China. The specialist highlighted that these markets impose more and more restrictiveness to the entrance of products with levels of salmonela, pesticides, residuals, etc, which are the main conflict focuses when exporting.Â

“The EU is the market on which the legislations are copied and it is the main referent in the food elaboration in the world. Its demands, are transfered more and more to the suppliers” she highlighted.Â

In that sense she also underlined that the Argentina is very far from some standards of the EU and Russia in active principles. However, she pointed out that our country occupies Nº 17 in the list, followed by countries like Brazil, Spain, Germany and France, according to the annual reports of the EU.Â

Di Giulio highlighted that although we are at the head of the list of main flours and oils suppliers in the world, a marked demand exists that is renewed constantly at international level regarding the standards, for what we should continue reinforcing the quality procedures and this way be able to continue being a reliable supplier in the time.

TraceabilityÂ

Then, the coffee break was opened, to later on continue with the speech “Traceability in grain products”, of the hand of the Agricultural Ingineers Roxana Saravia and Marcela Gimeno (Traceability of Argentinean Foods). Both specialists coincided in pointing out that the biggest demands in this environment are very related to the growing demand of foods at world level.Â

In turn, they highlighted that the traceability is a competitiveness and risk control tool that supports the quality systems in the companies, involving all the processes and actors.Â
Subsequently, it was the turn of Engineer Ariel Soso (Board ofTrade of Rosario), with the topic “Implementation ISO 17025: from the theory to the application”. Soso is responsible for the assistant manager’s office of the Laboratory of Quality of the Board of Trade of Rosario, which at the moment has 18 rehearsals credited in its behalf and has foreseen to credit other more toward ends of this year. Â

In his exhibition he mentioned that the traceability is a concept also applicable to the task that they daily develop in the laboratory, that is to say, adopting it to the methodology to evaluate the quality of the results. “The traceability chain is the international pattern’s result. I can say that the equipments work correctly in function of the mensurations carried out. That is to say, the traceability is seen from the perspective of the result compared with international references of the mensurations.”Â

After his exposition, assistants and lecturers shared the lunch, at the time that they exchanged experiences and cleared doubts. Â

Analysis and methodsÂ

After the noon, the Lic. Silvia Puebla (SENASA DILAB Vegetable Laboratory), approached the topic “Analysis of pesticides in vegetable material and validation requirements”, going into topics as the election of the appropriate analytic method, its application, contaminations, losses, the validation parameters, the uncertainty in the results, validation plans, CODEX criterias for multigarbage analysis, revalidations and quality assurance, among other topics.Â

Then, Dra. Cristina D’Aiutolo (BIOPHARM), carried out her exhibition on “Composition of amino acids through analysis by turbidimetry” and making a review for the structure and function of the amino acids, and its applications raw material for the birds and pigs production, to later go into detail in the conceptualization and finally the quantification of the essential amino acids, through chemical methods as Cromatography in thin layer (TLC), liquid Cromatography of ionic Exchange (IC), liquid Cromatography of high resolution in columns of reverse phase (HPLC-RPC). At the end, she presented the microbiological methods with faulty stumps through the kit VitaFast(r).Â

Subsequently to her presentation, the coffee break of the afternoon was opened, offered by the signature Supertec.Â

Advanced the day, the last two presentations of the event took place: “Biodiesel analysis and its instrumentation”, in charge of the Lic. Horacio Alzabet (Perkin Elmer Argentina SRL) and “Analysis of critical points of biodiesel by quick methodology”, closing the encounter with Gustavo Caneda´s words (TecnoCientífica SH).Â

Lic. Alzabet approached the methodologies for the quality control, the normative that govern in the EU and in USA, and brought near to the present notions about an Analyzer of Glycerine and Methanol in Biodiesel.Â

Lastly, Gustavo Caneda, approached the topic of the Critical Parameters in the Control of Production Quick Methodologies. Also, he commented in his exhibition that the glycerine as surplus, is one of the most worrying topics that the biodiesel production brings, as well as the quality guarantee in the transport and the storage.  Â

Supports and AuspicesÂ

It is necessary to highlight that the event was carried out thanks to the signatures: Instrumental Pasteur S.R.L., Greenlab, La Química Quirúrgica S.A.C.I., R – Biopharm Latinoamérica S.R.L., Tecnocientífica S.H., Perkin Elmer Argentina S.R.L. y D’Amico Sistemas S.A., and the collaboration of the firm Supertec S.A. and the support of the following institutions and organizations: Bolsa de Comercio de Rosario, Bolsa de Cereales de Buenos Aires, SAGYPA, CIARA, ACSOJA, AAPRESID, AATA, ASAGIR, APOSGRAN and the Federación Olivícola Argentina.
