This initiative that Iberdrola aboards will allow to generate business starting from the development of a source of renewable energy, to create opportunities of growth and industrial rationalization in the Basque country, as well as to support the use of the energy resource in the coast of this community.Â

Both companies plan to dedicate around 4,5 millions € to this project. It is foreseen that the system of energy generation is built and passes the technical verification in the sea through the year 2009.Â

Iberdrola will participate in Oceantec through Perseo, the investment promoting company recently started up by the Company. Equipped with an annual budget of 6 millions €, has as main objective to support projects of high technological value in the field of the renewable energies and the environment.Â

In this line, this investment promoting companie contemplates to analyze initiatives and companies that outline new ways of taking advantage of the sources of renewable energy, of maximizing its yield and of optimizing its cost.Â

This way, Perseo will put the view, among other focuses, in companies specialized in the use of the marine energies, area where Iberdrola is already developing projects in Spain (Santoña) and Scotland (Orkney Islands).Â

Also, Perseo will try to identify investment opportunities for Iberdrola in the mark of the biotechnology that can contribute solutions to the problems outlined in the current energy context through the creation of new fuels and of the capture of CO2. Regarding the basic business of the Company, this investment society will value proposals on new nanomaterials that can be incorporated to the generation systems, transport and energy distribution, including the storage of it.Â

The start up of Perseo is framed in the effort that the company is carrying out to face and overcome the energy challenges that it confrontds: the energy, whose demand grows unstoppable in the entire world, has become a scarce and expensive resource.Â

It is necessary to highlight that the launching of Perseo pursues to impel the paper that IBERDROLA plays in the field of the new emergent technologies, what will reinforce the bet and the commitment of the Company to be at the vanguard in I+D (Investigation and Development).Â

In this line, it is necessary to point out that the innovation is a strategic axis in the development of the activity of IBERDROLA, and it is shown this way in its Strategic Plan 2008-2010, presented last year by Ignacio Galán and that it contemplates an investment of 225 millions € in this area during the triennium.Â
